Call for Neighbourhood Tour Guides

The KMCLT is seeking local tour guides for our summer walking tour program.

Do you have an idea for a neighbourhood guided tour? We’re looking for themes that can be tied to affordability and the work of the KMCLT. In the past, we’ve had tours of raw food shops, music venues past and present, about growing up in Kensington Market, the history and presence of the Black community, neighbourhood activism and more. We are especially interested in tours that highlight local stores, and tie the past to the market’s present. Tours in languages other than English would be most welcome!

Send your tour idea with potential stops as a one-pager along with a paragraph that tells us why you are the one to lead this tour, noting  your availability over the summer months (June to October) to dominique@kmclt.ca by May 12, 2025.

KMCLT pays between $60 and $120 per tour. Chosen guides will be required to participate in a one-hour training and will be invited to collectively plan the summer tour schedule.

Land AcknowledgementWe, as members of the Kensington Market Community Land Trust, are aware that we are a settler organization. Kensington Market sits in the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit (an Anishnaabe people), the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat and Petun Nations, land which is now home to many First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon wampum belt covenant, an agreement by the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee to share resources equally and peaceably. It is also covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit. As a settler organization concerned with land ownership, we acknowledge that we have broken the treaties. Our work for the well-being of this land must include accountability to our relatives.
